Ella Purnell, the breakout star of Prime Video’s hit series Fallout, has teased major surprises for the show’s upcoming second season while candidly addressing one bizarre on-set challenge that became the “bane of her life.” The 28-year-old actress, who plays idealistic Vault Dweller Lucy MacLean, revealed at MegaCon Orlando that filming for Season 2 is underway and packed with “big twists” that will defy fan predictions.
“It’s going to be a wild ride,” Purnell said, acknowledging the physical demands of production. “We’re working really hard to get it out on time.” While she remained tight-lipped about specific plot details, she hinted at darker developments for Lucy as the character navigates the irradiated wasteland: “No one’s going to see these twists coming—it’s so fun to subvert expectations.”
The Emmy-nominated actress also shared an amusing behind-the-scenes struggle involving Lucy’s severed-and-reattached finger from Season 1. Crew members nicknamed the prosthetic “poop finger” due to its decaying appearance and the daily makeup process required to maintain it. “I have to tell people at home, ‘Don’t worry—it’s just paint!’” Purnell laughed, adding that she hopes future seasons might resolve Lucy’s grotesque digit dilemma.
Beyond the Wasteland: Yellowjackets Return & New Projects
Purnell’s schedule remains packed beyond Fallout. She’s set to reprise her role as tragic teen Jackie Taylor in Season 3 of Showtime’s Yellowjackets, despite her character’s shocking Season 1 fate. Meanwhile, she continues voicing Jinx in Netflix’s acclaimed animated series Arcane and prepares for her executive producer debut in Sky’s dark comedy Sweetpea.
The London-born star recently won the Madame Figaro Rising Star Award at Canneseries 2024 for her versatile performances across genres. With Fallout becoming Prime Video’s highest-rated original series and multiple projects in development, Purnell solidifies her status as one of Hollywood’s most dynamic young talents.
