Reds Launch Direct-to-Consumer Streaming for 2025 Season
The Cincinnati Reds announced a groundbreaking shift in fan access Thursday, unveiling a direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming platform for the 2025 MLB season through FanDuel Sports Network Ohio. This marks the first time in franchise history that fans can stream games without cable subscriptions – with no local blackouts.
Three Streaming Options Available
- Monthly Plan: $19.99/month (includes Reds games plus Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Cavaliers coverage)
- Season Pass: $105.99 (March 20 start) or $122.99 (February 21 start)
- Annual Subscription: $189.99 for 12 months of access
The service launches as spring training begins in Goodyear, Arizona, where split-squad games against Cleveland and Milwaukee start Saturday.
Francona Takes Stand on Robo-Ump Trials
Manager Terry Francona made waves this week by instructing veteran players to skip MLB’s automated ball-strike (ABS) challenge system during spring training. While allowing minor leaguers familiar with the technology to participate, Francona argued: “It’s not a strategy for [MLB teams], so why work on it? We’re here getting ready for a season”. Teams get two challenges per game under the trial system active in 13 spring ballparks.
Rebuilding Momentum
The Reds enter 2025 looking to build on last season’s 82-80 record that saw them remain playoff contenders until late September. Young stars like Spencer Steer aim to fill critical roles, while manager Francona continues shaping team strategy around established veterans. With new streaming accessibility and evolving roster dynamics, Cincinnati baseball faces a pivotal season in reconnecting with its “Big Red Machine” legacy.
