Katie Britt (R-AL) and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) are demanding newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel fill 1,000 vacant positions at the bureau’s Redstone Arsenal campus immediately, calling it critical to countering “sophisticated threats” against America. The move comes just days after Patel’s contentious Senate confirmation, which passed 51-49 amid partisan divisions.
From Rockets to Cyber Warfare
Established during World War II as a chemical weapons plant, Redstone Arsenal gained Cold War fame as the birthplace of NASA’s Saturn V rocket under Wernher von Braun. Today, it hosts over 70 federal agencies, including:

- FBI’s Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center
The FBI’s $1 billion North Campus at Redstone already trains agents in cyber warfare and advanced forensics. A South Campus now under construction could eventually house 4,000 employees – doubling current staffing levels.

Britt and Tuberville argue accelerating hires at Redstone would “send a message to adversaries” about U.S. readiness. Critics counter that relocating FBI resources risks politicizing national security.
