Rapper Yung Joc revealed Friday that three young children killed in a devastating Atlanta apartment fire were his brother’s children, calling the tragedy “traumatic” for his family and community during an emotional radio broadcast.
The blaze erupted Wednesday afternoon at Country Oaks Apartments in southwest Atlanta, claiming the lives of Jhacari White (4), Xhalia White (9 months), and Xyla White (1). All three were rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
During his “Streetz Morning Takeover” radio show, Yung Joc – born Jasiel Amon Robinson – shared previously undisclosed family ties to the victims: “I intentionally did not want to speak out on it because I didn’t want to overshadow the story. But the reality is, I’m human… my brother’s hurting, his girlfriend’s hurting.”
The tragedy struck just one day before Xyla White’s second birthday. A candlelight vigil held Thursday drew hundreds of mourners, including Robinson, who played audio of a family member’s tribute during his broadcast before becoming visibly overcome with emotion.
Fire officials have not yet disclosed the cause of Wednesday’s blaze. Atlanta Fire Rescue Department spokesperson Sgt. Cortez Stafford confirmed investigations remain ongoing but noted no working smoke detectors were found in the unit.
Robinson emphasized broader community concerns during his radio appearance: “I don’t know if you understand the level of trauma this brings to our community.” The rapper-turned-media personality has used his platform in recent years to advocate for housing safety reforms in Atlanta.
